It’s often been said that there is no such thing as a free lunch…and maybe that’s true, but if you know where to look then there are some things that are honest to goodness, no strings attached, Free!

For instance:

House or apartment swapping. If you’re going on vacation you might check one of the house/apartment swapping sites. If you find a place that you like to stay in you contact the owners and try to arrange a swap, your home for theirs for a specific amount of time. Interested? Check out Only In America.

Looking for free products? Check out The Free Site while there might be a few links that should be avoided there are a lot of legitimate no-strings attached samples of newly developed products.

Freecycle is an online community that reaches around the world that takes peoples unwanted items such as furniture, clothes, instruments or anything else you can think of and makes them available free of charge to other people. To post, all items must be totally free. This is also great because not only do people benefit from others outcasts but it’s good for the environment because it keeps good stuff out of landfills.

There are many more honest to goodness free items, books, free advice and even donate to less fortunate than yourself for free!

Did you ever look at your dog doing something “crazy” and wonder “why is he/she doing that?” Sometimes there not really nuts they really do have a reason to do something “crazy” you just need to know how to decipher it.

For instance did you ever see your dog burrow under the covers and wonder why? Well dogs are denning animals and it’s the same as we like to fluff up our pillows for the night they like to get their beds all comfy too and hide under clothes and sheets to make themselves feel safe, warm and comfortable.

Or why does a dog circle before they “go”? One reason is to look around for predators so they don’t get caught with their pants down, so to speak, and the other, more popular explanation is to find just the right spot to mark the spot with their scent.

One of my favorite, “crazy”, dog things is chasing their tail. And do you know Why they chase their tails? Because they want to!!!

And why do they dig up everything? Because it’s fun!!!

And how about that really annoying dog scooting their butts along the ground? Well, dogs have anal glands on each side of the anus, they fill with foul-smelling liquid that is normally expressed when the dog defecates, but sometimes they do not express naturally. When your dog scoots across the carpet, he/she is trying to do this on her own. if they continue to do this then you should take them to a vet and have the glands expressed because if you don’t they may get an infection and it will become painful for your dog, + the fact that your carpet is going to get really dirty and smelly!!

From 1934 – 1963 “The Rock”, (Alcatraz Island), was a Federal and Military prison that held some of the most infamous prisoners in the United States, Al Capone and George “Machine Gun” Kelly to name only a couple.

In the autumn of 1969, 6 years after the close of the prison, thousands of American Indians occupied the abandoned remains of Alcatraz for nearly eighteen months, reclaiming it as Indian land and demanding fairness and respect for Indian peoples.

It allures visitors all over the world, in fact there were 1.4 million visitors to Alcatraz last year alone. Alcatraz and Fisherman’s Wharf are among the top tourist attractions in San Francisco, in fact it is very difficult to get tickets to see The Rock as it is almost always sold out.

San Franciscans are voting for or against Proposition C, a measure to put on the ballot to Adopt a Policy that the City Acquire Alcatraz Island to Make it a Global Peace Center, a sort of spiritual mecca if you will.

Argument in support of Proposition C is that a Global Peace Center will attract more tourist trade than the old prison, because a Global Peace Center sends out a better message than an old, broken down, morbid prison, but others argue that San Francisco has more important priorities than worry about tearing down The Rock and one politician against demolishing it has said that it’s “crazy” because it’s not good for San Francisco, business or the citizens.

Even though it is being voted on by San Franciscans it is ultimately not their decision because it is Federally owned, the National Park Service has been responsible for it’s upkeep, and will continue to be, until “an act of Congress” changes that.

If it is torn down it’s not quite clear now where the millions of dollars needed to rebuild the center will come from…I have some ideas, don’t you?

Ahhhh, those politicians, you gotta love ‘em! Seems like we love to hate them, love to make fun of them and love make them the butt of all of our jokes, especially at election time, and why?

Because they are always going on about how they would do things differently, seems like they all want to “Change” things. Trouble is, will they in fact change things and more importantly will it be for the better or for the worse??

The New Year has just began and already we’re hearing about the 2008 recession! The year has started out with a bang alright but definitely not a good one!

With big time companies like Yahoo! laying off people it doesn’t take a genius to see that times are hard and getting harder!

With unemployment and a recession on the rise everyone out there that has a job should be praying to the Job God right about now.

Companies are dropping like flies and it doesn’t appear to be getting any better!

The average American doesn’t know this, (because it’s not announced on the news every day), but where I live in Holland it is, that the dollar is at an almost all time low and that most countries don’t even want to touch the good old “greenback” right now because it is loosing money faster than they can get it to the bank.

Of course if you’re rich you know this fact and Many of the rich or people that have even a small fortune are moving their money out of America and to countries where they can begin to recoup some of their losses and not loose anymore to this recession.

Living in Holland I see Every Morning what the current rate of the dollar is, it’s announced at the end of the news just before the weather.

Did you know that when Bill Clinton was leaving office that it took only 84¢ to buy 1 Euro? And this morning?

This morning it takes $1.46 to buy 1 Euro! For your information, yesterday it took $1.45 to buy 1 Euro!

Now I realize a penny doesn’t seem like a lot but when your cashing in a lot of money it adds up considerably! For that 1¢ increase in one day if you had 1 million dollars you would have lost $10,000 in just one day!

Now take that and consider that just a little over 8 short years ago it took 84¢ to buy 1 Euro! The amount lost on 1 million dollars is staggering! With the Euro costing 52¢ more now to buy 1 Euro a millionaire would have to pay $520,000 more to buy the same amount as he/she would have 8 years ago! Over half a million more to buy 1 million Euros…in just 8 short years!

I don’t have to tell you that the average Joe can not afford this recession and the average Joe can definitely not afford to loose his/her job right now!

Things are looking bad for America & Americans financially and with what the stock market did recently it doesn’t look as though the value of the dollar is going up anytime soon, in fact, quite the opposite!

So now that you are in bad enough shape what are you to do if you happen to loose that precious job of yours?

Trust me, I know that Unemployment and/or Welfare is not going to take care of you and your loved ones sufficiently!

I came across a site last night that addresses the possibility of you loosing your job whether you be laid off or fired. This site offers a few tips on how to get another job and get back on your feet again.

I don’t know if these tips will help, but if your jobless right now you might need all of the help you can get to landing what many may say, is that “illusive” job!

Did you know that if you’re at a party and meet someone and that person asks you “What do you do for a living?” the answer you give will determine if you end up exchanging phone numbers or saying goodnight?

It’s not often admitted but what people do for a living affects their sex appeal.

A survey was conducted recently on what is considered to be the sexiest jobs and although you may be surprised, the top picks were not necessarily based on salary or looks, (although some obviously were)!

And the winners are…

1. Entertainer/Model, make a living by looking good, so you can bet they’re easy on the eyes. Successful models travel the world, are famous and have huge paychecks.
2. Cocktail Waitress, consider the fact that the waitress is probably dressed in a short skirt and bringing you drinks, which never hurt anybodys sex appeal. A good cocktail waitress can make a killing on tips alone, especially in an upscale establishment.
3. Athlete, likely in great shape. The chance to be famous and internationally adored is pretty nice.
4. Firefighter, brave and selfless. They save lives and serve the community.
5. Cowboy, He’s masculine, chivalrous and everything else we admired in Western movies. It’s a quiet life away from the city.
6. Nurse, keep you comfortable, devote their lives to caring for others and understand all that medical jargon only makes them sexier. They care for patients, watch them get better and put a baby in its parents’ arms for the first time.
7. Artist, doing what makes him happy, not what will bring him fame or money — and that’s pretty sexy. They spend their days being creative and get paid for it.
8. Military Professional, they’ve got the ultimate uniform, if you’re into that sort of thing. Job security and good pay, (?)
9. Construction Worker, all the women stare out their window to watch the construction worker take off his shirt. Their job keeps them in shape and their hard work is often rewarded with a nice salary.
10. TV Anchor/Personality, the way they talk with authority, seem to know everything and make you feel like you’re best friends. They get to be on television and get the news before anybody else.

Did you hear the story about a couple in the United Kingdom that met, felt an immediate attraction for each other, fell in love, got married and Then discovered that they were actually twins??

They were split up and given up for adoption to different families at birth!

Now this is Just My Luck! I can definitely picture this happening to me!

As it turns out this is not a case of in vitro fertilization it was a “normal” conception and birth.

The judge of course had to deal with the consequences of marriage and separation among other things.

The matter has been put to Parliament and the argument has been made that artificially conceived children should be told who their biological parents are.

The judge has stated that it would probably be a matter of litigation in the future if the information is not available to children who have been donor-conceived.

This is all fine and good but what if you are like this couple and Not donor-conceived?

Should you be made to pay the price of all of the misery and heartache that this and no doubt other couples have had to deal with, if you are born of “normal” conception?

After all, these children were given up After birth because for whatever reason and the parents may not want the children to know them or be able to contact them BUT children that are donor-conceived are actually given up Before they are even conceived by people that don’t want to be identified for whatever reason…hence the unidentified donor programs around the world!

I obviously understand both types of parents side of the story but something just doesn’t seem right to me…it seems that the “naturally” conceived children are definitely getting the short end of that stick here, what happened to equal rights?

Let me start off by saying that if you tuned in here too late yesterday then you found out that the Tom Cruise video has been pulled off the internet by the Church of Scientology, because of certain secrets that they do not want to be made public to non-believers, at YouTube and all of the other Websites that I visited to get another copy for you…

Gee, I wonder why? Could it possibly be that Tom Cruise seems a bit “unstable” yet again?

And yet this happens directly after they vigorously state that they stand behind the video, but now state that it was a pirated and edited version!!! Maybe they have been “educated” about “the new reality”!!

Anyway, I’m sorry for that because you missed “a really good shoe”!!

OOPS…There I go showing my age again!!!

Anyone that knows me knows that I love animals not only for their extraordinary intelligence but also for the goofy way that they look and act sometimes, (Tom Cruise springs to mind yet again!), so I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
