That First Step is a Dusey!

One of the methods of ridding yourself of a phobia, according to the professionals, is to confront your fear and then magically it will probably go away.

Speaking as a person that does have a couple of phobias I have never been able to do this, what can I say? I am weak! I am afraid! In fact, I think I have a phobia about trying to cure my phobias! I don’t quite know what they call a phobia about curing your phobias but I do know the name of one of my personal phobias and that is…Acrophobia! Yes! I have a terrible fear of heights!

So I was reading about the tallest building in the United States today, The Sears Tower, soon to be renamed to Willis Tower, and how they now have “The Ledge”, or I suppose, The Ledges, which are glass balconies that are suspended 1,353 feet in the air and jut out four feet from the building’s 103rd floor Skydeck!! They consist of transparent walls, floor and ceiling leave visitors with the impression they’re floating over the city!!! I Don’t Think So!!! I don’t even like being IN the Sears Tower, much less 4 feet from it in the middle of the air!

I don’t know about any other acrophobics, but I do know about this one, and I for one, will Not be trying to confront my fear of heights by stepping out onto “The Ledge” to see if I can overcome my fear of heights! In fact, just seeing a photo of one today gave me heart palpitations!

But for those of you that do want to confront your fears OR for those Evil Knievels of the World that love thrills and danger all I can say is:

The First Step is the Hardest!

That’s all for me today as I am going to lie down now and try to get these palpation’s stopped! But I hope to see all of you back again soon for more…

New Kid On The Block!

A few days ago a red panda cub was shown off to the World for the first time at the Calgary Zoo. She was born on June 4 of this year and is said to be doing very well. She is obviously eating well as she supposedly already has a nice, big tummy!! The public will not be able to view her until the end of the summer.

Zoo keepers are keeping watch over her and her 5 year old mother, Malikha who gave birth to this little ones sister two years ago. Malikha is reportedly a good mother and while she only tolerates her new cub being taken away from her for brief periods of time for the necessary health checks she takes care all of the the rest of her cubs needs such as grooming and making sure that she is returned to her nest box!

When a new red panda is born and raised by it’s mother it is very special because unfortunately the mortality rate for these red panda cubs are as high as 74%! Red pandas reach maturity at about 18 months old.

There are less than 10,000 mature red pandas in the World today and they are classified as “vulnerable” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red list.

The cub hasn’t a name yet but when she does I am sure that it will be something very fitting for this:

The “Lilypad”!

We’ve probably all heard of a city by the sea and indeed it has probably been the dream for many of us to live in one of these beautiful little cities and absorb the atmosphere that they have to offer but how many of us has ever given thought to living in a city On the sea?

As many of you probably know Dubai is in the midst of building Island Cities even as we speak. With these self sufficient cities we will never have to worry about running out of room on land to build on.

Now on the drawing board, so to speak, there is an architectural concept of a “Lilypad” floating city that takes advantages of today’s “green” technologies. Power would be generated from the sun, wind and water and the “Lilypad” would produce zero emissions from it’s residents.

The “Lilypad” is not under construction now or even planned to be under construction anytime soon, but it has been said that since Dubai has its “Island Cities”, real estate just many start branching out into the oceans as soon as the next decade!

T.G.I.F. & Still More Turkey!

Well I’m still so full from yesterday that I can hardly move this morning and after looking in the refrigerator I see that I have done it yet again this year!

I DO NOT know how I manage it, but Every Year when I cook Thanksgiving dinner and serve everyone that I can possibly find to get rid of the food, (I even gave some rolls to the ducks this year), I STILL end up with more food…especially turkey, than what I originally started with!

I swear Tommy Turkey Grows with every bite I take!

So now I’ve got the dreaded job of creating new creations for the next month with all of the leftovers! I needed some new ideas, (ones that weren’t mine because last year when I started serving turkey milk shakes I knew I was loosing it!), for what to do.

I found this site quite by accident but with all of the leftover turkey recipes it has I figure I’ll be safe for at least a month without having to sink to having leftover leftovers!!!

So if you didn’t take Tommy Turkey’s advice yesterday and “EAT BEEF”, and you need a little help with this problem too, maybe you’ll be able to find something new for your table also!

Leftover Turkey Recipes

Well, that’s all for me today…I’m going to go out and try to jog or Something!… if I can move at all, but hope to see you back again soon for some more good old fashioned…

Microsoft to Offer Free Security

On Tuesday Microsoft said it is changing its strategy for offering PC antivirus software, with plans to discontinue its subscription-based consumer security suite Windows Live OneCare and instead offer individuals free software to protect their PCs. This protection is due to be available in the second half of 2009.

“Customers around the world have told us that they need comprehensive, ongoing protection from new and existing threats, and we take that concern seriously.” “This new, no-cost offering will give us the ability to protect an even greater number of consumers, especially in markets where the growth of new PC purchases is outpaced only by the growth of malware.”
Amy Barzdukas, senior director of product management for the Online Services and Windows Division at Microsoft.

Personally I think this is great news. With everything so expensive these days it’s nice to get a “Freebie” once in a while!

That’s all for me today, hope to see you back again soon for some more…

Great New Find!

I hate to admit it but for quite a while I, (the one that is always tooting it’s horn), stopped using Download Firefox 3 as my favorite browser and started using it’s sister site, SeaMonkey.

Let me tell you this hurt me terribly as I always loved Firefox, but on my computer it was running very slowly and I needed to find another browser that hopefully was much like Firefox and used many of the same extensions so I tried SeaMonkey. I liked it very much but it was still not My Firefox!!

Anyway, to make a long story short, (too late I know), after a few months of SeaMonkey I went back and tried the new version Firefox 3 and I am happy to report that Firefox and I have been happily united as it runs great…nice and fast…just like I like it!

But that’s not the reason I am posting today believe it or not! I am posting to tell you about this great extension that Firefox has that I just came across. I’s called iMacros, and I’m sure that many of you are going to say “but that’s Old News”, and it may well be, but to me it’s new and if it’s new to me then hopefully it will be new to another one of my oh so fantastic readers!

If you spend a lot of time in Firefox, and especially if you perform a lot of the same repetitive tasks each day, iMacros can save you so much time and hassles. It sits in your Firefox toolbar, and lets you record tasks whether they are web development tasks that you need to preform all of the time, or simple tasks such as opening a series of tabs you use each day.

It has very quickly become one of my favorite extensions and if you preform the same old mundane tasks each day on Firefox like I do, I’m sure it will become one of your favorites too!

Oh! A couple more things!

The latest version of iMacros is compatible with Firefox (3.0.4) And!

If you happen to use SeaMonkey as your favorite browser there is a version for that too that can be downloaded here: iMacros for SeaMonkey

And there is even an iMacros download if you prefer IE located here: iMacros for IE

That’s all for me today, hope to see you back again soon for more…

On This Day In History…Part 2

In the future it will probably read something like:

Democrat Barack Obama won the 2008 U.S. presidential election to become the 44th President of the United States and the first African-American to hold the highest office in the nation.

Making his running mate, Joe Biden, the 44th Vice President of the United States of course.

This piece of history was over 200 years in the making and they said it could never be done but president-elect Obama and millions upon millions of voters disagreeded and said “Yes We Can”…and of course they did.

Senator McCain conceded defeat after receiving only 156 electoral votes to president-elect Obama’s 338, (270 being the magic number to win).

I just finished listening to his first address to the nation as president-elect where he congratulated Senator McCain for a very well run race and in which he told Americans, (in short), that “change has come to America” and that the road will be long and steep but if we put aside our differences and all pull together that there is nothing we can not do and we can overcome any hardship…”Yes We Can”.

‘All things are possible’ address to the nation

In closing I would just like to say congratulations to president-elect Obama, his new Vice President Joe Biden and wish you Godspeed.

That’s all for me today and hope to see you back here again soon at…

Mobile Phone Tracking

You know, according to how you look at it this could be a really good thing or a really bad thing. Personally when I first came across it, the really good things entered my mind and then after thinking about it for a while I could see that it could have it’s down side too…according to what you’re doing at the time!

I was made aware of this site that can track a GSM mobile phone using Phone Tracking Satellite System within meters all around the world.

The system is based on repeater triangulation, it tracks mobile phones using GPS and GSM technology and they guarantee that their free service works so well that if they can’t provide you with accurate information, within their maximum margin of error, then they will go so far as to pay your rent or mortgage for a month, (maximum $2,000.00).

As I said, I choose to see it as a positive thing. If you happen to have a hurt, lost or kidnapped loved one and they are lucky enough to have a mobile phone that uses GPS and GSM technology then this just be the answer to both of your prayers.

The mobile phone tracker was first put into use to help 911 responders track any connected phone in the world and now it’s available to the general public.

There is an approximate maximum margin of error and that is 10 meters in Europe and the U.K., 25 meters in the U.S.A., South America and Canada and 50 meters elsewhere in the world.

Want to check it out for yourself? Then go here, select a country, enter the phone number of the phone you want tracked and click on the button to start searching.

Satellite GPS Locator

Remember, if you are going to try to use this for locating someone, the system does not work in countries that do not have GSM networks.

That’s it for me today! See you back again tomorrow for more…

Yuwie; Paid Social Networking

This post is for anyone in the world that has not heard of Yuwie yet…and I doubt that anyone out there on the Internet hasn’t heard of Yuwie, but in case you haven’t, here goes!

Yuwie is relatively new but hitting the Internet by storm. It is like a continuous social networking party to the masses much like MySpace only with a twist. It is also the first social networking Website that pays it’s users to do what they are already doing! Anytime anyone views your profile, blog, photos, rates you, or joins under you then you get paid.

Now of course I personally don’t think that anyone is going to make a killing by being a member of Yuwie, although many claim that they receive a decent amount each month, but if you are into social networking or you have valuable information that you want to get out on the Web Without paying for it, then this just may be the place for you.

Yuwie also offers everything that all of the other social networking Websites offer you, such as customized profiles, blogs, photos, videos, clubs, friends, referrals, (you also make money off of your referrals activity too), and more.

If you haven’t already joined Yuwie then here’s your chance or if you don’t know what I am talking about and just want to check it out to see if it may be something you’re interested in then go to:

Yuwie; Paid Social Networking

That’s all for today folks but I’ll see you back again tomorrow for more…
