McDonald’s & Burger King eRumors!

It seems as though there are a couple of eRumors going around recently about boycotting McDonald’s and Burger King because they are buying beef from foreign sources.

One of the eRumors states that these companies are buying beef from South America but McDonald’s and Burger King are vehemently denying this stating that they are Not purchasing beef from South America but rather they are conducting a small experiment using less than 1% of their beef and purchasing Lean beef from Australia and New Zealand and furthermore this is nothing new as it has been going on for years and they are not suppose to be the only ones buying foreign beef as most major fast food restaurants such as Taco Bell, Wendy’s and Carl’s Jr. are also using up to 50% imported beef in their restaurants.

One of the eRumors states that McDonald’s has claimed that there is a shortage of beef in the United States and that is why they are purchasing beef from other countries but McDonald’s denies saying this, McDonald’s states that what it said was: that there is a shortage of LEAN beef in the United States.

McDonald’s is the largest buyer of beef in the United States per year with Burger King coming in second and of course any beef purchased and/or served is 100% USDA-approved and inspected.

That’s about it for me today, hope you have a good one and see you back soon for some more good old fashioned…

Net Neutrality

I hope that everyone had a great New Year!

I came across this video that I thought you may be interested in. It is becoming far more profitable for Internet providers to limit and prioritize your Internet access. From their point of view, the ideal business model would be a television-like system that requires you to pay extra subscription fees to access sites that aren’t included in your standard package of ‘channels’.

Yaaaawn!!

I get nosy about the computer a lot and when I find myself bored with what I am doing I try to spend a little time trying find answers to some burning question that I have about the computer.

Over the week-end I found myself in just that situation, bored with what I was doing and I had a question that had plagued me for a while. I have been wondering how to change the welcome screen on my computer.

As it comes to find out it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, I thought if I could find where the file is located I could just type something besides Welcome and that would be that.

Well as it turns out I come across an answer that said I had to hack into the file using a hackers program and change it that way.

I came across a video that I was able to look at Before downloading this program which is good as I wanted to see just how involved it would be Before starting my little project.

1st of all I decided that I would not be trying it as I am VERY WELL KNOWN for having computer disasters!!! That plus the fact I could not stay awake long enough to finish the video!

I know very well that being a star and making videos is not for everyone but this man had to be the most boring man I have ever heard in my life!!

I kept falling asleep and falling off of my computer desk while trying to view the video!

DO NOT GET ME WRONG! I am very sure that the man is a complete computer genius…something that I definitely am not, but making videos is not his forte at all!

In the beginning he wasn’t even sure what the name of the product he was trying to instruct about was and things only went down hill from there.

But if you are interested in learning how to change your Welcome screen and you can stay awake for the entire 4 minutes and 53 looooog seconds then this Computer Geek can help you out I a am sure!

Changing Your Welcome Screen Video

And to the Computer Geek…I apologize for being so hard on you and your video acting skills but I have no doubt that you are an absolute genius when it comes to the computer…something I am definitely not!

T.G.I.F. & U.F.O.’s! / WordPress 2.7

I recently downloaded and installed the new improved WordPress 2.7 and in 3 little words:

I Love It!

The Dashboard is to die for, everything is handy where it is easily accessible with a choice of grey or blue skin.

I like the fact that now you can make a quick post if you’re running short on time and don’t want to go all the way to the normal editor and that you have the freedom to customize the dashboard any way that suits your needs.

All of the modules have the drag and drop option so you can move the modules around any way that suits you and some also have an open and close option so that you can see everything on offer or collapse them up for a cleaner more minimal look.

You can change the settings from the main dashboard and display what is important to you or hide them if they’re not important to you at the time.

You can adjust the size of your editor, there are also keyboard shortcuts for comments moderation and if you double click on a comment in the Comments view it opens up in the editor.

From the dashboard you can see if you have any drafts that you’ve made and maybe forgotten, any incoming links, all of your posts from this week, last week and a while ago and what’s hot on WordPress.

Having said all of this with all of it’s great new features I do have One Tiny complaint. (Well, not so tiny to me)!!

If you have a blog that is hosted by WordPress.com then on your dashboard already included in the 2.7 is all of your stats from all of your blogs but not if you are hosting your own blog, and this was so important to me…in fact it was one of the main reasons that I upgraded from 2.6. To be able to see my stats when I logged in and see who was reading what.

For those of you that know me know I am definitely no computer genius and I have a way of always messing things up on my computer so I only upgrade when it is really something that I want terribly!

I knew about the stats because I have another blog hosted by WordPress and of course the day the upgrade came out I was using it on that blog but it seems that no matter how hard I tried I can not get the stats plugin here on JabberWocky! to work.

So to WordPress 2.7, I give it an 8…would have definitely been a 10 if I had been able to get the stats plugin to work!

By the way…if anyone out there knows possibly what I’m doing wrong or does know how to get the stats plugin to work then please leave me a comment and tell me…I would truly appreciate it!

Well, that’s it for me today and this week, I hope you have a great week-end and hope to see you back here again soon for some more…

I Can’t Believe…

that I did something this morning that I Never thought I would do! (Keep it clean boys)!!

I actually Deleted one of my posts here at JabberWocky!!

I always swore that when I worked so hard writing a post that I would never delete it because I always think long and hard Before writing a post and when I do I always try to make it the best that I think I can do!

I try to be as informative, educating, entertaining or whatever else I set out to do as I can when I begin writing and I feel that it is a total waste of my time if I write something only to go back later and spend yet more time deleting it, but in this case I don’t think I had much choice!

The post has cost me More time in deleting Spam comments coming from Russia than I ever spent writing it! And the stupid part about it is, as I posted a couple of posts before, it is always the same people making comments that have nothing to do with the subject. I suppose they can’t read or something and obviously they are posting comments so that their Websites will get clicked on!

One would think that after I removed all of the clickable links on the comments that I could salvage and then to have the rest of their comments never show up because I marked them as “spam” and they were deleted that they would simply stop wasting their time and mine!

I suppose they must have a robot or something doing their posting but actually 99% of the comments make sense they just don’t pertain to the subject and when you post a comment to me 15 or 20 times that does not pertain to the subject from the same IP address, and we are not bantering back and forth, I Am going to mark your comments “spam” Every Time”.

So Hey, FYI! I’m not going anywhere and I have to be on this site every day so what’s a couple more seconds for me to have the joy of stopping you in your tracks for trying to spam me!

Well anyway, that’s the state of things around here, and to my friends that I have been discussing this problem with…Thanks for listening and most of all thanks for making me laugh when you make light of the situation! I’ve really enjoyed our fun!

That’s all for me ranting today! Hope to see you back again soon for some more good old fashioned…

Microsoft to Offer Free Security

On Tuesday Microsoft said it is changing its strategy for offering PC antivirus software, with plans to discontinue its subscription-based consumer security suite Windows Live OneCare and instead offer individuals free software to protect their PCs. This protection is due to be available in the second half of 2009.

“Customers around the world have told us that they need comprehensive, ongoing protection from new and existing threats, and we take that concern seriously.” “This new, no-cost offering will give us the ability to protect an even greater number of consumers, especially in markets where the growth of new PC purchases is outpaced only by the growth of malware.”
Amy Barzdukas, senior director of product management for the Online Services and Windows Division at Microsoft.

For more information go to:

Microsoft to Offer Free Securtiy

Personally I think this is great news. With everything so expensive these days it’s nice to get a “Freebie” once in a while!

That’s all for me today, hope to see you back again soon for some more…

Great New Find!

I hate to admit it but for quite a while I, (the one that is always tooting it’s horn), stopped using Download Firefox 3 as my favorite browser and started using it’s sister site, SeaMonkey.

Let me tell you this hurt me terribly as I always loved Firefox, but on my computer it was running very slowly and I needed to find another browser that hopefully was much like Firefox and used many of the same extensions so I tried SeaMonkey. I liked it very much but it was still not My Firefox!!

Anyway, to make a long story short, (too late I know), after a few months of SeaMonkey I went back and tried the new version Firefox 3 and I am happy to report that Firefox and I have been happily united as it runs great…nice and fast…just like I like it!

But that’s not the reason I am posting today believe it or not! I am posting to tell you about this great extension that Firefox has that I just came across. I’s called iMacros, and I’m sure that many of you are going to say “but that’s Old News”, and it may well be, but to me it’s new and if it’s new to me then hopefully it will be new to another one of my oh so fantastic readers!

If you spend a lot of time in Firefox, and especially if you perform a lot of the same repetitive tasks each day, iMacros can save you so much time and hassles. It sits in your Firefox toolbar, and lets you record tasks whether they are web development tasks that you need to preform all of the time, or simple tasks such as opening a series of tabs you use each day.

It has very quickly become one of my favorite extensions and if you preform the same old mundane tasks each day on Firefox like I do, I’m sure it will become one of your favorites too!

Oh! A couple more things!

The latest version of iMacros is compatible with Firefox (3.0.4) And!

If you happen to use SeaMonkey as your favorite browser there is a version for that too that can be downloaded here: iMacros for SeaMonkey

And there is even an iMacros download if you prefer IE located here: iMacros for IE

That’s all for me today, hope to see you back again soon for more…

Blog Comments

Recently the stats on my blog have been going up each day on one particular post, (believe me when I tell you it was definitely Not my best post!), and on that post I have been getting at least one comment each day that I have to moderate. While I love for people to read my blog and comment on it’s contents these comments have been getting ridiculous and are obviously SPAM!!

These comments are coming from Russia and the first couple of days they were approved because the comments had merit and the Websites that these people had looked ok to me, (not full of ads to click on and make money…even though my Russian is sadly lacking what it use to be these days), but I have had to start deleting or marking these comments as spam recently as many of them, still on the same post, continuously come back and make generally the same comments now, something to the effect of “good” or “good blog” or “good work”, each time with a different name and Website but with the Same IP address.

Those of you that have been around here since the beginning KNOW FULL WELL how I feel about my blog/blogs being SPAMED as I wrote a very lengthy post about it quite some time ago.

So in closing this post, which I Really did not want to write…

Let it be know to everyone if I continuously receive comments on my posts, especially the same posts, with the exact same comment coming from the exact same IP address these comments will be purged and marked as spam from now on.

I hate to have to do this as I am generally a nice guy gal but I do so hate being taken advantage of!

That’s all for me today, hope to see you back again Reading AND Commenting, (Not Spamming me), soon here at…
