Rabies Be Gone!
Rabies could be eradicated from the world within a decade, according to experts. Research has found that all animals infected with rabies had a variant of the disease that originated from the domestic dog.
Extensive research has shown that the disease kills about 55,000 people per year but it could be wiped out across the world within a decade if sufficient vaccination programs are carried out on domestic dogs. If domestic dogs were vaccinated worldwide the disease cycle would be broken leaving no threat to humans.
A couple of weeks ago the first World Rabies Day was held and more than 45 countries across the world are holding events throughout September to raise awareness of the need to control the spread of the disease.
